Graduation Speech : Isabel Yakoubek

To the class of 2016,

In real life every day you graduate. Each day, you accomplishment something in life and every day is new adventure waiting for you to complete. Golf Middle School has been like a home to me. Iv'e been in District 67 since kindergarten. Golf Middle School District 67 has been a very comfortable learning environment for me. The
teachers are very kind, they teach us in a very comfortable way where we can learn at our best abilities. The students here are so unique, and by looking at them now, I remember them from kindergarten, from being new to our school, and when I became friends with them. It's hard to say good-bye to Golf Middle School and it's hard leaving all the teachers and all the memories from every single day of school here from the beginning. There are so many memories here at Golf Middle School District 67. I remember when I was in kindergarten while at Hynes and went to the Circus with our classmates, and I still remember the picture of us, the little us, wearing plastic red noses from the Circus. Comparing to that, we have grown so much, and our family at Golf has grown. My hopes for the future is to do good at high school and go off to a nice college. I wish to continue in high school with the dance team "The Vikettes" and continue my dance career by going to a college to study dance. The experiences here at District 67 has been tremendous. How we all started one year or another or even started out in kindergarten at Hynes. I remember my first day at Golf Middle School trying to get my locker combination right and to find my way around the new school and meeting new teachers. It went by so fast and I can't believe that soon it will be my last day at Golf Middle School District 67 as a student. Our family is complete and without this family, our lives would not be the same. I would like to thank all the teachers, administrators, my parents, staff, students, and of course my friends for making this a wonderful learning experience at Golf Middle School District 67.

Thank You !

Testing - Competitive Dance Team : Vikettes Audition

Last Friday was the audition for the Vikettes and everyone who tried out, had to meet up in the wrestling gym. My friend Remi and I were practicing for almost in hour and reviewing technique and the routine. Once we went downstairs to the hallway outside the dance studio, I was so nervous. I walked in confident and brave and was trying my best to act professional. The judges wanted us to demonstrate turns, leaps, toe-touches, and the routine twice. I decided that I should take the risk and do founttes ( an advanced turn ) for my own 8-count choreography at the end of the routine. The next few days were very stressful thinking about the results and wondering if I made the team.

On Monday night, I was just getting back from ccd and about to get ready for bed and finish up homework. But, suddenly my mom walked in my room and said she wanted me to hear a certain voice message. I said "what is this about ?". My mom said to just listen and my dad was suddenly there by my door and I finally realized that maybe it's about the dance team. We finally got to the voice message, and I was listening very closely. It said the word "Niles North, Congrats, and Varsity!", the three words that I was dreaming of hearing. A big bright smile rose upon my face, I couldn't believe that I made VARSITY because varsity is usually for the older grades and returning members but they said I made VARSITY which meant that they saw potential in me and knew I was a great dancer. The fact that I got on VARSITY and i'm not even in high school meant that I will be one of the youngest dancers on the team.

This was one point in my life that I felt like I was getting closer to my dream because I'm trying to become an amazing dancer and getting on the Varsity Competitive Dance Team The Vikettes is a huge accomplishment and it tells me that I am super talented and have a chance to make my dream come true.

It also gave me a new connection to my mom because she did the exact same thing in high school. She joined a dance team ( pom pom girls ) like the Vikettes, she got in and made the team. I wanted to follow in my mom's footsteps and I did.

This is a dream come true !

Beginning and ending of next week : NNHS Vikettes

NNHS Vikettes :

I am looking forward to next week because next week is when i'll be going to the high school's dance studio and going to the dance clinics all next week for the Vikettes ( Competitive Dance Team ). The dance clinics are for at least 3-4 days right after school and the tryouts are at the end of next week. I am very excited to be going to the dance clinics because it's a great opportunity to see my competition and find out what is expected. My friend Remi and I are both trying out and are very excited. At the dance clinics, we learn a simple routine with some hip hop, jazz, and poms. They also talk about what is expected at the audition and we also review leaps, turns, and toe-touches and practice for the audition. It's also a great way to show everyone there how dedicated I am to dancing and how much I am determined to make the team. I am very excited to show all the judges what I can do at the audition.

The Beginning will be an amazing experience with lots of fun learning routines.
The Ending might be a true beginning to my dance life.

Field Trip : Camp MacLean in 7th grade

Camp MacLean :

We went here in 7th grade and it was lots of fun. We went fishing, and I caught 1 fish myself. I shared a cabin with my friend Dhanvi and some other girls in my grade. We want rock climbing and it was very high. The most funniest moment was when we were playing capture the flag in the evening because it was very dark out and Ethan was wearing this hoodie that covered his face and it was like a alien face and Mariah and I got freaked out and screamed, when we turned around. We also went to a campfire and roasted marshmallows, and we walked a lot that night. It was so much fun and it was one of the best field trips ever. I can't wait to go again this year.

Blog - Diary Entry

September 8th, 2015

Dear Diary,

We were on our way to Virtuoso Performing Arts to try out a free dance class to see what it's like and if it's a place that I want to dance at. We walked into the building, and walked down the hallway to find the part of the building with Virtuoso Performing Arts.

It was so decorative and very creative looking. There was a silver sign that read "VPA" and there was a whole section that showed all the dance, music, and acting teachers who work at VPA.

My mom and I got a tour of the place and saw the dance studios and music rooms. Then, I walked into the ballet class that I was trying out. It was amazing, the dance studios were so nice looking, the teachers were very professional, and everyone looked like serious dancers, just like me.

I was at the ballet barre, and was trying my best to stay along and do all the correct positions, arm and leg movements and look confident. I was nervous at first, but once we started they told us they are separating us into two different ballet levels, I knew I had to stop being nervous and be confident. I tried my best and it worked because when the class was over, my mom said the teacher came to her and said that I was doing very good.

Next week I joined the class and decided to stay at Virtuoso Performing Arts for dance. I successfully made it to level 2 and 3 for ballet. So, this year I'm doing strictly ballet ( levels 2 and 3 ).

Quotation Blog

We must live, and when this is all over, we must work to make the world a better place.  And if we die, we will die knowing that it was not our fault, that we did our best, and we can go to our deaths in dignity… I want you both to live…And to remember...You must choose love.  Always choose love.”

This quotation is from the book " Daniel's Story " and is said by a character named " Erika ".

This quotation reminds me of the movie " Titanic ".

The movie " Titanic " is about an UN-sinkable boat that hits an ice berg and sinks with thousands of passengers with few life boats on board. The women and children might get on a life boat, they might die from the coldness, they might die and drown on the Titanic ,and they could survive on a life boat. Once the passengers were warned that the boat will sink, they all wanted to live and they all could die or commit suicide. But, everyone on this boat knows that if they die, it was not their fault that it sunk. Also, the quotation says " And to remember...You must choose love.  Always choose love ", shows that some passengers on the boat might have to split up to be able to get on a life boat, some might decide to not even try and stay in their room on the Titanic and die together on the sinking boat, and some families might stay on board with their husband or father because men and woman were the only ones allowed to go on life boats first. They all chose love and died ( or survived ) knowing that it was not their fault.

Free Topic : Cheerleading

Cheer leading at Golf Middle School has been a blast ! I love cheering at the games with my friends, stunting, and doing the half time routine. It's been such a great experience and has improved my technique. My toe-touch jumps are really improving and so is my stunting. Recently, our practice back on Wednesday was amazing because we finally did a perfect and clean stunt. I was the flyer, and Iv'e loved being the flyer because I am very light and I think it's fun being the flyer and being brave enough to stand on people's hands and get pushed into the air, and finally cradle by getting down. All the other schools seem to have matching shoes for example and have very clean and loud cheers, and I personally feel like our team is different in a special way. We might not have matching white shoes or perfect gymnasts on our team or the best uniforms, but I think we are the special ones. We are the ones that don't need matching shoes or perfect loud cheers. We are special in our own way. We started out not very loud and not familiar with stunting. But in the end, we all succeed by getting more loud at doing cheers, more sharper movements, better jumps, and great stunting. I love my team and will always remember this great team.
Thank you Ms. Wisser for a great cheerleading experience !
